We are looking for a highly motivated and talented individual with a passion in cancer genomics, biology, and radiation research to join the Tan Chin Tuan Laboratory of Optical Imaging, Photodynamic, and Proton Therapy - Precision Radiation Oncology Programme (PROP). The scope of the projects conducted under the premise of PROP includes 1) early- and late-phase clinical trials; 2) cancer genomics and data science; and 3) translational cancer and radiation biology. The Research Officer in Bioinformatics will be instrumental in propelling our research projects forward through expert analysis of single-cell and spatial omics data, along with image analysis and the integration of diverse multi-omics datasets. This role offers a unique opportunity to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of leading immunologists, oncologists, pathologists, and AI scientists. The candidate will contribute to pioneering research involving a broad spectrum of data types, from mouse and human to cancer and various disease datasets, leveraging their bioinformatics expertise to drive innovations in disease understanding and treatment strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Lead the analysis of single-cell and spatial omics datasets to uncover cellular heterogeneity, spatial organization, and gene expression patterns in diverse biological contexts.
2. Conduct advanced image analysis to extract quantitative data from biological imagery, employing cutting-edge computational techniques.
3. Develop and implement integrative multi-omics analysis pipelines to synthesize information across various data types (genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, etc.), facilitating a holistic understanding of biological systems and disease mechanisms.
4. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including biologists, clinicians, and computational scientists, to design experiments and interpret findings within the context of complex disease states.
5. Contribute to data management and curation efforts, ensuring the integrity and accessibility of datasets.

The Research Officer will oversee the progress of the research study under the supervision of the Principal investigator. They will perform a variety of research activities which include planning and execution of experiments for functional validation, leading up to a scientific publication.

Main Duties:

1. Tissue Logistics

• Tracking of biological samples received in the lab pertaining to the study
• Collection of patient samples (FFPE, Tissue, WBC,DNA or RNA) from Pathology
• DNA/RNA extraction from frozen tissue or FFPE
• Submission of DNA/RNA samples to external sequencing partner

2. Cell culture

• Generation of cell line and/or organoids from tissue collected from the study
• Maintenance of these cell lines and/or organoids in culture

3. Perform tasks and support all aspects of the research project

• Performing literature reviews when required
• Plan and execute experiments for functional validation
• Conduct accurate monitoring, documenting and reporting of experimental result and research findings
• Evaluate and interpret collected data and prepare oral presentations/scientific manuscripts/ literature for publication

4.Perform other related duties

• Laboratory upkeep and maintenance

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s/Master of Science degree in related technical discipline (biology, cell biology, biomedical science, biochemistry or molecular biology)
