Manager, Freight ( Operations)

The Freight Manager plays a pivotal role as an integral member of the DFS Supply Chain, contributing significantly to the seamless and efficient flow of goods within the organization. DFS Supply Chain oversees a supply chain network across multiple global regions, including the Asia-Pacific (APAC), Europe, the Middle East & Africa (EMEA), North America (NAM), and Oceania.

As the Freight Manager, you will oversee and optimise DFS’s global freight operations. You will play a critical role in ensuring the efficient, secure and cost-effective transportation of merchandize, point-of-sales material, visual merchandising and project materials globally wherever DFS is present. You will manage a freight professional team and collaborate with various stakeholders to meet organizational objectives. This position reports directly to the director of Freight & Logistics, and the successful candidate will have a proven track record of success in freight operations management, especially in commercial and/or retail freight.

Freight Operations

• In Partnership with DFS’s partner 4PL to ensure seamless, timely and optimized freight movements
• Acts as subject matter expert (SME) to handle, guide and / or answer logistics related questions from both internal and external parties
• Maintains strong relationships with the incumbent Freight Forwarders (LSPs)
• Executes regular reviews with LSPs on service quality.
• Creating & maintaining a centralized knowledge database in the forms of SOP or SWI

Level 1 Troubleshooting and Technical Support:

The Ocean Freight Procurement Manager Asia assumes ownership for the whole freight negotiation process on all Asia lanes for HillebrandGori. With a footprint of over 15,000 TEUs, responsibilities include:

• Reporting to Group Ocean Freight Procurement, support all Asia offices (import & export) in securing their ocean transport needs; work with internal departments, sales, operations, across multiple business lines to anticipate requirements and implement procurement action accordingly.
• Analyze tradelanes supply & demand, services and preferred options per route, analyze freight indexes and anticipate market trends
• Manage and build relationship with key decision makers with the ocean carriers ;
• Run the actual freight procurement exercise, define optimum process, from actual tenders to spot buying, from mid to long term contracts with commitments, to spot and opportunistic terms.
• Proper internal communication and coordination of carrier policy adopted, of contracts negotiated, follow up on volume performances.
• Maintain buying ocean rates with QRS.
• Develop annual volume and spend analysis to measure freight spend, and identify opportunities for optimization.
• Provide pricing guidance to both locally and centrally managed accounts / tenders, in coordination with the actual account owner.
• Participation to Global Sales / Corporate Account tenders

Required competencies

The position demands:

• Communication skills and a very strong ability to analyze and synthetize information. An experience in the negotiation domain as well as an obvious likeness for numbers is recommended. Full command of the English language as well as basic Windows functions (Excel, Power Point) is a must. Likewise, existing experience with QRS is a plus.
• Ability to perform in a somewhat isolated environment, as whilst located at an existing JF Hillebrand office, he or she will be working essentially with outsiders.
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills; ability to use data and metrics to back up assumptions, recommendations, and drive actions.
• Strengths in problem solving, issue-resolution, ability to work in a deadline-driven work environment, attention to detail, and ability to multitask.

Experience in freight procurement, including carrier relationship, is obviously beneficial ; likewise a strong experience in the HillebrandGori book of business and sales is welcome as will allow the candidate for a smooth transition and integration in the new position, with an immediate understanding of the business challenges that must be addressed.

A. Overall Purpose Of The Job

Responsible for development and implementation of sourcing initiatives. Manage the incoming RFQs / RFPs to provide the required information in a timely, competitive, and qualitative manor. Develop and implement new sourcing and purchasing strategies for the region.

B. Key Responsibilities

• Responsible for the development and implementation of strategic sourcing initiatives for MedSupply International (APAC) from stakeholder needs analysis to supplier management.
• This role will have a particular focus on, but not limited to, medical products, e.g., Pharmaceuticals, Medical Consumables/Devices and Medical Equipment.
• Help introduce and manage alternative sourcing methodologies for MedSupply International (APAC)
• Develop and implement purchasing strategies.
• Responsible for timely and accurate RFQ process.
• Manage daily purchasing activities, working closely with the procurement team.
• Manage supplier relations and negotiating contracts, prices, timelines, etc.
• This role requires partnership and collaboration with other business units, Quality Assurance, Operations Finance, Pricing, Product Marketing and Sales functions across a varied cross-matrix organization to win new business or retain existing business.
• Propose and implement new ways of conducting business more effectively.

• Experience in working closely with Global Healthcare organizations with be beneficial.

• Knowhow of how RFP to RFQ events are organized, managed and concluded;
• Knowledge of inventory processes, BOM set up and MRP logic.

• Ideally, background in medical equipment, device or pharmaceutical sectors; past exposure to contract negotiation and drafting to support global Sourcing agenda.
• Experience in strategic sourcing including driving successful implementation of strategies as well as provide tactical level support.
