While these challenges are likely to resonate with interdisciplinary scholars, there is a need to move beyond an evidence-base that is mostly anecdotal towards a systematic understanding of these practical challenges.

In this project, the Research Fellow will work together with Associate Professor Terry van Gevelt to identify and quantify practical challenges to interdisciplinary research using the field of energy studies as a vehicle. The successful candidate will possess a strong quantitative skillset and a demonstrated ability to problem solve.

• Use web-scraping and textual analysis to generate a novel dataset
• Analyse the dataset using quasi-experimental methods

The Assistant Boutique Manager is to assist in managing the day to day business of the retail shop, achieving all performance targets and goals as well as by leading the team to ensure high level of guest satisfaction maximizing margins. Primary Responsibility

• To work closely with the Boutique Manager to achieve optimal revenue, set targets, forecast and budgets for Boutique
• To support induction and trains Retail Associates in sales, revenue, technical and product knowledge skills.
• To manage retail floor team in day to day operations for Boutique and ensuring consistent high customer service level and seamless shopping experience for customers.
• To review with Boutique manager allocation and control of Boutique’s expenses.
• To work with Boutique Manager in merchandise development and curating consignment brands
• To maintain and control well balanced stocks levels in the Boutique
• To support Boutique Manager in managing all online queries, orders, deliveries and communications for Boutique especially during peak and festive seasons
• To work with Boutique Manager to empower Boutique’s team with consistent customer service skills, hotel communications and product knowledge via training and daily store briefings
• To work with Boutique Manager to review and analyse ways to move slow moving merchandise and maximise on fast moving, best seller merchandise for both in store and online. To ensure gourmet merchandise with near expiry dates to be cleared and minimise cost for write off
• To support in monthly inventory stock takes together with Finance team
• To work with Boutique Manager to ensure safe working practices are followed and adhered to including emergency procedures
• To champion and lead festive season hamper production and operations working closely with Boutique Manager and Boutique’s team.

Candidate Profile

Knowledge and Experience

• Minimum GCE ‘O’ Level or Diploma in Retail/related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in the Retail industry and 1 year in supervisory role.
• Inventory control.
• P.O.S system knowledge (Micros 9700 (or local equivalent).

RESPONSIBILITIES

• To extend and expand the long time-series records of meteorological data and extreme climate-induced events in our study area (by running a Zooniverse project to digitise historical instrumental weather data contained in ships logbooks, newspapers, and mission station records, using crowd-sourcing methods);
• To compile a database of narrative evidence describing weather conditions and weather events, their impacts and associated societal responses (through archival analysis of international collections of missionary documents and newspapers from historical archives), and to assist in converting qualitative descriptions of rainfall conditions into continuous quantitative ordinal-scale climate indices (using standard historical climatology methods);
• To use the narrative evidence compiled in point 2, to explore the impacts of rainfall extremes upon societies in Singapore, Malaysia and Sumatra during the study period through modelling and/or historical analysis.

• PhD in Historical Climatology, Climate History, or a related field.
• Database management, data collection from historical archives; critical textual analysis; analysis of historical meteorological data.
