The veterinary officer will report to the Attending Veterinarian and Directors' Office and work closely with the veterinary team and technicians.

The role of the veterinary officer is to be responsible for, but not limited to the following:

• Ensure the welfare and health of research animals including rodents and fish
• Prevention, alleviation and minimisation of pain and distress of animals
• Provision of scientific research support, information, and services
• Development of animal husbandry systems and facility operational management
• IACUC responsibilities
• Education of scientific, animal care and ancillary staff
• Any other exigencies of duties as directed by the Attending Veterinarian, Directors, or senior BRC staff

Job Requirements:

• Degree in Veterinary Science or Veterinary Medicine with eligibility to apply for an AVS veterinary licence.
• Prior work experience in research animal facility is not required but will be considered favourably.

Job Description:

The laboratory of EpiMetaGenomics (https://bensonchenlab.com) is seeking to recruit a skilled and motivated research officer interested in functional genomics. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in high-throughput sequencing, microbiology, molecular biology, and cell culture techniques. The candidate will work with a team to develop in vitro and in vivo functional assays, collect and process tissue samples, and assist in the day-to-day operation of the lab. Job duties & responsibilities:

1. Laboratory maintenance: assist in organization and upkeep of laboratory supplies. Take on administrative roles where necessary, such as procurement of lab supplies, lab safety oversight… etc.

2. Laboratory procedure: perform various biological assays, including PCR, DNA/RNA purification, protein extraction, bacterial and mammalian cell culture.

3. Carefully and thoroughly document all procedures performed and results generated

4. Communicate, design, organize, and conduct the experiments efficiently. Complete assigned tasks on time.

Requirements:

• Bachelor Degree in relevant fields with at least 5 years of previous experience in a research lab
• Solid knowledge in molecular biology
• Highly motivated and passionate about scientific research
• Ability to follow protocol precisely and have excellent communication skills
• Team player and have a strong motivation to achieve the goals

Responsibilities:

• Provide advice and assistance to passengers in response to enquires (for example journey routes and times, fare and ticketing issues, travel on other modes of transport & travel directions and use of travel interchanges)
• Assist passengers with special needs in boarding/ alighting the trains safely
• Observe and take appropriate action against any failure of equipment and irregularities whilst at stations, including requesting assistance from other railway staff
• Ensure that all passengers comply with the Rapid Transit Systems (RTS) Regulations
• Communicate with OCC and passengers as necessary via train communications equipment
• Monitor the performance of the train whilst travelling and take appropriate action against any irregularities, including requesting assistance from other railway staff
• Deal with train defects in the most safe, effective and efficient manner in accordance with the relevant working manuals and procedures
• Maintain validity of track access qualification and comply with competency assessment
• Drive the Passenger Trains
• Deal with incidents such as Passenger Emergency Communication device being activated, fire on train, detrainment, etc., in the most safe, effective and efficient manner in accordance with the relevant working manuals and procedures
• Perform the duties of Emergency Train Operator in the most safe, effective and efficient manner in accordance with the relevant working manuals and procedures
• Perform other duties as directed by his/ her superiors

Requirements:

• Higher NITEC in Engineering or GCE 'A' or 'O' Levels, with minimum 5 credits for 'O' Level holders
• Preferably with minimum 2 years' working experience in the service or retail industry
• Required to manually operate station and trainborne equipment
• Possess a pleasant disposition and personality
• Good interpersonal skills with a passion to work with people
• Willing to perform shift work
• Ability to identify colours
