Job Description

• Pulsed plasma actuators have gained significant traction in the research community for their ability to produce enhanced aerodynamic performance with minimal modifications required to the system geometry. Yet while most studies have focused on flow separation control, less attention has been devoted to skin friction reduction. This project aims to examine and optimize the performance of a novel class of pulsed plasma actuators.
• The selected candidate is expected to conduct experiments to characterize both the aerodynamic performance and plasma properties of these actuators, so as to understand the underlying physical mechanisms leading to any observed drag reduction. Extensive use and development of laser-based techniques should be expected, along with ample potential for use of machine learning approaches.

Qualifications

• PhD in Fluid Mechanics, Aerodynamics, Applied Physics, Plasma Physics, or related field. Experience in laser-based diagnostics and/or machine learning approaches is strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

• Image Analysis: Develop and implement algorithms and computational pipelines for the analysis of biological images, including microscopy, clinical images, and other imaging modalities.
• Multi-omics Data Analysis & Integration: Apply state-of-the-art computational methods to analyze and integrate diverse biological datasets, including but not limited to genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics data.
• AI and Machine Learning: Utilize AI and machine learning algorithms to uncover patterns, correlations, and predictive models from multi-dimensional biological datasets, enabling a better understanding of biological processes and mechanisms. These may involve feature selection, dimensionality reduction, clustering, and predictive modelling.
• Data Integration: Work on integrating image data with other biological data types to comprehensively understand biological systems and mechanisms.
• Data Management: Design and optimize databases to efficiently store and retrieve multi-omics and image data. Ensure data integrity and security while facilitating easy access for researchers.
• Collaborative Research: Collaborate with experimental biologists and other researchers to design experiments, analyze data, and interpret results in a multidisciplinary environment.

Job Qualifications

• Masters or Ph.D. in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in computational biology, such as Python, or R.
• Experience with AI and general-purpose machine learning techniques and libraries.
• Knowledge of database management and data integration methodologies.
• Understanding of statistical methods for analyzing biological data.
• Familiarity with image analysis and relevant software packages. These analyses may include image segmentation, feature extraction, object detection, and tracking.
