Duties & Responsibilities

• Responsible for the timely and accurate collection of blood specimens from patients as requested by the clinicians using any of the appropriate techniques - Venipuncture; Capillary collection (fingerstick or heelstick); Blood culture specimen collection.
• Perform venipuncture on patients (up to maximum 2 attempts).
• Perform phlebotomy procedures using proper, sterile and safe techniques.
• Troubleshoot problems and make recommendations.
• Manage phlebotomy consumable items inventory.
• Sort and record all blood specimens collected.
• Ensure sample collected from correct patient using correct tube type.
• Ensure specimen tube and form are correctly labelled.
