The Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) seeks a Research Assistant in the areas of natural hazard impacts.

The candidate will work under the supervision of David Lallemant and Susanna Jenkins and will collaborate with the researchers from the ‘Integrating Volcano and Earthquake Science and Technology (InVEST) in Southeast Asia’ project, a 5-year project that aims to provide a holistic understanding of regional tectonics, volcanoes, the linkages between the two, and their cascading hazards and impacts in Singapore and Southeast Asia. 

Specific research/duties will include identifying potentially impactful hazard scenarios in the Southeast Asian Ring of Fire, contributing to numerical modelling of the hazard and its consequences, developing key case studies that can inform and support policy decisions, and preparing information and outputs in ways that can be used to communicate with policy makers and other risk stakeholders.

EOS is a Research Centre of Excellence at Nanyang Technological University Singapore that conducts fundamental research on earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, and climate change in and around Southeast Asia, towards safer and more sustainable societies.

EOS maintains a regional network of geophysical observation stations in collaboration with neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia, that are supported by the EOS Centre for Geohazard Observations, as well as a Remote Sensing Lab (EOS-RS). Computational resources are available through a dedicated cluster and collaboration with the High-Performance Computing Centre of NTU. The individual will be supporting on receiving store for the school. The individual will be also supporting maker’s lab in mechanical prototype design and fabrication. The individual will be assisting lab waste disposal, general maintenance and safety of lab and inventory management.

Responsibilities

Operation and maintenance of mechanical fabrication machine and other equipment.

• Taking proactive approach in understanding the students’ projects, and providing assistance, solution and troubleshooting

Maintenance of Lab, Safety and Exit Clearance
