Understanding the pharmaco/nutrico/toxicokinetic behaviour of drugs, chemicals and food ingredients is a fundamental step in assessing the efficacy and safety of these materials. It can be challenging to study such substances directly in human subjects, while animal models lack direct translatability to humans due to inherent differences in species biology. One promising strategy is the use of physiologically-based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) modelling to predict the local tissue and systemic exposure of these substances. We have developed in-house in vitro and in silico tools to model chemical absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion (ADME) in humans using data generated from in vitro assays. We apply these tools to predict pharmacokinetic profiles in different settings, ranging from oral or transdermal administration to studying special populations such as pregnant women, for a variety of substances including pharmaceuticals, food ingredients, environmental contaminants, essential micronutrients and microbial metabolites. These capabilities are further enhanced with state-of-the-art, enabling technologies such as the SHIME® intestinal digestion simulator and spatial mass spectrometry imaging.

The following tasks are expected of the candidate:

• Literature search to extract relevant ADME data for chemicals of interest
• Perform in vitro absorption, transporter, metabolism, fraction unbound and other related ADME assays
• Quantify membrane protein, metabolic enzyme and xenobiotic concentrations within biological samples using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC/MS/MS) instruments
• Integrate appropriate in vitro and in silico data into PBPK models to predict the ADME of chemicals
• Develop new and/or improve features of in-house models, including pharmacodynamic modelling

Manage Facility:

• Ensuring that the facility is in compliance with GMP regulations. The project involves fabrication and characterization of lithium niobate and barium titanate based photonic devices, including waveguides, Mach Zehnder interferometers, modulators, meshes of such devices, couplers, etc. for photonic computing purposes.

Integration and testing of devices includes measurement and mitigation of optical losses, optimization of processing recipes for electron beam lithography, laser writing, etching (both dry and wet), metallization, and development of integration strategies.

Responsibilities:

• Sensory Panel Management Support – (including scheduling, profiling and training of our panels).
• Assisting the team with running sensory research projects for multinational clients, focusing on both team delivery as well as client management in order to ensure the accurate and efficient management of projects.

• A fresh Food Science graduate or up to one year's experience in a sensory role.

A Programme Manager position is open at the Singapore Hybrid-Integrated Next-Generation μ-Electronics (SHINE) Centre of Professor Aaron Thean and within the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, National University of Singapore (NUS).

The candidate will have a leading role in managing the related research projects, reviewing, and monitoring the execution, leading all aspects of the communication with the involved industrial parties.
The candidate will also have responsibilities in the following areas:
1. Coordinate the setup of the Centre in close collaboration with its Directors and PIs.
2. The Programme Manager is expected to play a leadership role in ensuring a tightly integrated programme where appropriate research activities are clearly collaborative; and to monitor, supervise, and manage the various principal investigators and receive reports on their research projects and specifically to review the progress of the various research activities for their deliverables along pre-determined timelines and make necessary changes, when appropriate, to the programme to achieve the stated goals.
3. Monitor and report on usage of the grant, review, and report expenditure where appropriate.
4. Expected to assist and interact with all partners on reports such as mid-term review reports, annual programme reports, final programme report etc.,

Qualifications

The Signature Research Programme in Emerging Infectious Diseases (EID) aims to pioneer the development and discovery of new and more effective methods for the treatment, prevention and control of new and emerging pathogens. The key outcome of the research will be the early identification of new pathogens, out of which new diagnostic tests, treatments and control strategies will be developed.

This position is for a full-time Senior Research Fellow position. The Laboratory of Virus Evolution (LoVE) studies rapidly evolving respiratory RNA viruses including influenza, parainfluenza and coronaviruses. Our research helps to understand the molecular drivers of virus evolution and population dynamics, and their influence on virulence and pathogenicity.

The candidate is expected to play a critical role in generating and fostering a cutting-edge, interdisciplinary research environment. The candidate should possess a strong background in molecular virology and/or immunology, and will utilize metagenomics sequencing and virologic techniques to understand the evolutionary dynamics of different RNA viruses. The candidate will be involved in developing antiviral antibody therapies in the prevention and treatment of virus disease.

The candidate is expected to perform a variety of research under the Principal Investigator’s supervision or his/her designate. The main duties and responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following: -

• Conduct and design experiments for rapid molecular diagnosis and efficient genomic sequencing
• Perform bioinformatics and phylogenetic analyses
• Develop and test novel antiviral preventive or therapeutics against virus infections.
