Job Description
SG is offering an exciting opportunity to join the High-Performance Coaching Team and be part of bringing Singapore Gymnastics to the next level. SG is looking for dedicated, knowledgeable and resourceful WAG Coaches to help establish our athletes as strong competitors on the world stage in future.
Roles and Responsibilities
1. COACHING
Work with the High Performance Manager (HPM) and the WAG National Head Coach to maximize performance of gymnasts in the National Training Centre (NTC) to achieve the long-term objectives of Singapore Gymnastics.
Develop and implement a broad long-term development plan, as well as a detailed annual plan that develops gymnasts to achieve their potential and SG’s objectives. This should include a structured system to recruit potential talent and the transition out of any gymnasts who do not meet the development requirements.
Work out detailed daily and monthly training schedules in line with SG’s National Programme to meet training objectives.
Provide fundamental training in the areas of technical, physical and psychological competition strategies.
Assess each gymnast’s role and potential in the squad as well as their progress in training by:
o Collaborating with each athlete to set realistic targets for training sessions and competitions.
o Maintaining records and monitoring the outcomes of training programs.
o Regularly reviewing the training and competition records of each athlete.
o Conducting feedback sessions at the end of each training and competition.
o Providing guidance and advice to the gymnasts before and during competitions.
Ensure strict discipline and a high level of commitment from each gymnast.
Assist Junior and Senior Team
2. SPORT DEVELOPMENT
Assist with the implementation and monitoring of the National Programme.
To provide strategic direction to the development of the sport through the Technical Advisory Council (TAC).
To assist with the development and implementation of the criteria and system for talent identification.
In conjunction with the WAG Head Coach plan the annual competition calendar.
To work together with the technical officials on judging matters.
On an ad hoc basis:
o Assist in leading and conducting SG’s National Coach Accreditation Courses/ other coach education events.
3. REPORTS
Prepare and present half-yearly athlete reports
Prepare analysis of the training and competition achievements of athletes against the Key Performance Indicators
To regularly keep the WAG Head Coach informed of updates and progress
4. TRANSFER OF EXPERTISE
To identify and provide comprehensive apprenticeship training and opportunities for a core group of NSA-identified coaches and officiating personnel.
To provide mentorship and training for the identified local coaching personnel that are identified to be part of the “Coach Internship” programme.
5. CODE OF ETHICS
To act in the best interests of SG at all times and avoid any interest, activity or relationship that conflicts with the interest of SG.
Work together harmoniously and productively with other National Coaches.
Respect relationship boundaries with various stakeholders (e.g. gymnasts, parents etc.) and maintain impartiality.
Abide by SG’s Child Safe Commitment Statement.
6. RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT
Assist with effective and professional communication to key stakeholders and the community via website updates and “SG Latest News” stories.
Strive to continually build stronger relationships within Singapore’s gymnastics community through regular communication with coaches, clubs, athletes and other stakeholders at large.
Where appropriate and required, establish links with other world-class people, programmes and/ or organisations with specific expertise in High Performance sport (i.e. within and outside of Gymnastics).
Assist with any other general duties within the SG office as directed by the Technical Director (TD).
Skill Set Required
Required Skills and Knowledge
National and/ or international gymnastics coaching qualifications, with a preference for FIG Level 1 andabove accreditation or the equivalent.
Up to date with the current FIG Code of Points and able to apply that technical knowledge to effectivelygroom elite individual gymnasts.
Flexibility to coach gymnasts of different age groups.
Has sound knowledge of international WAG development trends.
Innovative and willing to try out new coaching methods to suit the gymnasts’ needs.
Basic knowledge of Sports Science coaching methodology.
Possession of FIG judging brevet would be an advantage.
Strong people skills and an effective communicator able to establish good relationships with athletes,coaches and clubs.
A good level of administration skills and proficient computer skills (e.g. email, Skype, Microsoft Word, Excel,PowerPoint, Google documents etc.).
