The Air Pollution and Health team's research of Prof. Steve Yim focuses on the interactions between climate and air quality, and the resultant impacts on public health and ecosystem. The team's ongoing research is to develop, advance and utilize the state-of-the-art multi-scale atmospheric models, along with measurement and statistical approaches, to understand the mechanisms that drive the climate-air quality interactions, and evaluate the impacts on human exposure, mosquito abundance and soil acidity.

Particular interests are in investigating air quality impacts of sectoral emissions and transboundary air pollution at multiple spatial scales, studying regional climate change due to land-use changes and global climate change, and evaluating and quantifying the effects of air pollution on respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. The team also assesses and develops emission control scenarios to provide scientific-based policy solutions for a sustainable environment in present and future years.

The position will be required to develop and apply modeling techniques to simulate the spatial distribution of air pollutants in a city at a high spatial resolution. The model development requires to collect data at different aspects. The position will have to work on the data collection, data processing, model development and application, and data analyses. The position has to document the model development and results in reports and peer-review international journals.

EOS invites applications for a Research Fellow to develop a greater understanding of coral reef systems in Southeast Asia, with a specific focus on calcifying and bioeroding cryptofauna.

Human activities have altered coral populations and their environments from those that originally formed reefs. A lack of quantitative data on coral reef functions from the region makes it challenging to predict how reef systems will respond to climate change.

The Research Fellow will be responsible for conducting fieldwork using SCUBA (PADI Rescue Diver qualification desirable) and laboratory analysis to assess coral reef diversity and habitat functioning in both turbid and clear-water reef settings. The successful candidate will be able to independently coordinate and undertake local and overseas field research to produce high-quality datasets. Field activities include benthic ecological surveying, biological and environmental sample collection, water quality measurements, deployment of experimental substrates, and experimental ecological work. The Research Fellow will also have previous experience conducting a variety of laboratory tasks relating to quantifying carbonate production of encrusting coral reef taxa, eDNA, stable isotope analysis (C/N), and micro computed tomography. The candidate must also be willing to learn and develop protocols for novel technologies to map and assess coral reef habitats, such as large-scale underwater photogrammetry. An excellent track record of first-author publications relative to career stage is advantageous.

• Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures. Make recommendations, provide solutions, and resolve issues as challenges arise.
• Weekly reports to HRBP on assigned tasks and provides timely and periodic reports / statistics within the scope of work.
• Participate and executive in the HR program to drive employee retention, engagement and development.
• Participate in developing departmental goals and objectives.

Job Requirements:

• Degree in HR/Business is preferred. Diploma holders with more years of HR experience can be considered.
• Minimum 5 years human resources work experience required.
• Manufacturing experience is a must.
• Possess strong knowledge of Employment Act and Singapore laws and regulations. Familiarity with HR functions such as Recruitment, Employee Relations, Disciplinary & Grievance procedures etc.

The Corporate Communications Office (CCO) works to enhance the University’s reputation by raising awareness of NTU’s vision and mission and achievements in education, research and innovation. The media relations role helps to build awareness of the University’s activities and strengths by optimising media publicity for the University on various media and communication platforms, working closely with both internal and external stakeholders, its industry and academic partners, and various government ministries and agencies.

Responsibilities

The Senior Assistant Manager, Media Relations is to source newsworthy and impactful stories across the University in the areas of education, research and innovation, with a focus on science communication, and to conceptualise and develop communciation plans that result in sustained and positive publicity for the University.

With a strong nose for news and the abilty to sift through information, you are to translate NTU’s research discoveries and innovations into positive stories in local and international media and the University’s various communication platforms.

A versatile and passionate communicator, you are to develop communication plans for media publicity projects that may include new corporate initiatives and announcements, launch of academic and research programmes, and various achievements by the University and the NTU community to engage the University’s stakeholders.

You will help develop and implement integrated communication strategies that highlight the University’s strengths in research and innovation, with a strong focus on sustainability research, that cut across the different communication functions of the Corporate Communications Office, to obtain sustained and favourable publicity in local and international media.

We need someone creative who enjoys developing publicity worthy content and who has the analytical ability to sift through information and zoom in to find the gems and apply a sharp focus to get the job done ahead of time, and at the highest quality.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, or other applicable disciplines.
• 3 to 5 years’ experience in journalism is preferred, or experience in editorial writing or in a media relations role in a large organisation.
• Excellent news sense and experience of news and feature writing and editing, and ability to convey messages succinctly, responsibly, and accurately.

The ICC Office under InsPIRE is responsible for a wide spectrum of activities related to NTU’s Interdisciplinary Collaborative Core (ICC) curriculum which is part of the NTU Education 2025 strategy.

ICC Office is responsible for working with the different colleges/schools to offer and administer the seven core ICC courses that will be taken by all NTU students admitted from AY2021-22 onwards.

This role is required to oversee the management, administrative and coordination aspects of the ICC that include academic planning, timetabling, course registration, and course delivery and assessment, and the assignment and management of the faculty, ICC Lecturers and ICC Specialists hired to teach the courses. The role is critical in ensuring a meaningful and value-adding learning experience for all NTU undergraduates and the faculty involved in ICC teaching.

Responsibilities:

Office Administration

• Administer procurement, reimbursement and financial activities of ICC Office
• Assist colleagues from InsPIRE and other units under InsPIRE in overseeing office related matters
• Serve as the secretary/note-taker for all ICC Meetings
• Assist with the planning and organisation of ICC-related meetings, workshops/seminars, and team-building activities
• Assist with the selection of ICC instructors for the Nanyang Excellence Awards for Teaching
• Assist with all other ICC-related administrative tasks

Course & Student Administration

• Oversee and manage inter-college/school/department collaboration and serve as the liaison between ICC Office and Colleges/Schools on matters relating to student enrolment and instructor assignment, coordination of academic matters and activities
• Oversee and manage all ICC courses’ curriculum matters including liason with course coordinators and course instructions, submission of course outline for approval, timetable planning, course registration, course attendance, and consolidation of final course marks
• Administer student-related matters such as student combination in classes (ensuring classes consist of a good mix of students from different programmes), change of classes, course exemptions and credit transfers

Faculty & HR Matters

• Assist ICC/Dirs and HRBP on coordination for Faculty Search Committee, Promotion Review Committee, Reappointment Review Committee etc.
• Arrange for interview and mock-teaching sessions for the hiring of faculty
• Work with colleges/schools and course coordinators on the assignment and allocation of full-time and part time instructors teaching ICC courses
• Work with HR and schools on the appointment of new adjunct instructors and reappointment of existing part time instructors
• Approve the the teaching claims of part time instructors
• Prepare the necessary information needed and scheduling of ICC instructors for annual performance appraisal of ICC instructors and coordinate with HRBP and the reporting officers of ICC lecturers on appraisal meetings

Outreach

• Be the main point of contact and support to students, partners and schools on matters related to the ICC
• Manage information concerning ICC curriculum and matters on the Internet and Intranet, and other relevant social media platforms
• Conduct, coordinate and/or support activities to share and promote ICC’s mission and curriculum, including the compilation and production of relevant marketing materials and eDMs
• Assist in the planning and organisation of outreach activities including marketing collaterals (eg, door gifts)

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree with at least 5 years of relevant working experience, preferably in an institute of higher learning and/or the education sector
• Prior experience in a relevant administrative/managerial role in an institute of higher learning will be advantageous
• Meticulous with good organisational skills and a keen eye for detail
