Our expanding freight forwarding company is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead our air and sea operations. This role requires extensive hands-on experience in both air and ocean freight sectors, with a focus on operational excellence and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
1. Manage and coordinate daily execution of air and sea shipments, including documentation, customs clearance, cargo handling, and build-up operations.
2. Ensure strict compliance with international trade requirements, regulations, and company policies.
3. Implement and monitor Operating Procedures and Service Level Agreements (SLAs) to ensure quality and efficiency.
4. Plan shipment movement to optimize cargo space utilization and export LCL consolidation.
5. Negotiate competitive rates and service terms with carriers, cargo agents, and approved vendors to maximize profitability.
6. Collaborate with head office, sales, and customer service teams to provide customer-centric solutions, develop trade lanes, and business networks.
7. Participate in joint sales calls and visit clients as needed.
8. Resolve escalated service issues promptly to maintain high customer service standards.
9. Develop and execute strategies, objectives, and metrics for operational excellence, aligning with the company's overall goals.
10.Prepare reports for senior management on department performance, project status, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.
11.Oversee procurement and capacity strategies across air and ocean logistics.
12.Accurately register job costings using internal freight systems for timely invoicing.
13.Lead and mentor a high-performing team.
14.Drive innovation and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Accountabilities
- Oversee the overall performance of the operations department, ensuring the achievement of key performance indicators (KPIs) and key results areas (KRAs) while driving operational excellence.
- Safeguard the company's and customers' interests in all operational activities by leveraging expertise in trade compliance.
- Optimize budgets and resource allocation to maximize operational efficiency.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in both air and ocean freight operations
- Certified in Dangerous Goods handling and TradeNet declaration
- Relevant industry certifications (eg IATA, FIATA) preferred
- In-depth, practical knowledge of freight forwarding processes, including: Tariff management, Procurement strategies, Customs procedures and filings and International trade compliance
- Proven track record in leadership and team development
- Strong industry network, particularly with air and sea carriers at senior level
- Experience in creating and implementing OPs and SLAs
- Proficient with CCN platform, freight systems (Sysfreight preferred), and Microsoft Office suite
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and customer service skills
- Analytical mindset with a focus on process improvement and efficiency
