Job Summary:
The Food Bank Singapore is a food charity-of-choice dedicated to fighting hunger and reducing food wastage in Singapore. Established in 2012, our mission is to bridge the gap between those with excess food and those in need, providing a sustainable solution to hunger. We work with a network of donors, volunteers, and partner organisations to collect and redistribute food to more than 370 beneficiary organisations. The Food Bank Singapore is currently seeking a highly skilled and versatile professional to join our team as Accounting, Business Reporting and Operations Manager. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing Accounting, overseeing operations to ensure the efficient running of our charity, and provision of business and financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
(1) Operational strategy development: Create and implement strategies to optimise operations and improve efficiency, as well as identify areas for operational improvement and implement the required changes.
(2) Team leadership: Lead, mentor, and manage the operations team to achieve organisational goals and taking the team on the mission’s journey.
(3) Budget management & supply chain management: Develop and manage the operations budget, ensuring cost-effectiveness.
(4) Supply chain management: Oversee the supply chain with buy-in from the Warehouse and Logistics Managers, from procurement to distribution, ensuring compliance to procurement rules timely delivery and quality control.
(5) Process improvement: Identify areas for operational improvement and implement necessary changes. NB: With the impending passing of the Good Samaritan Food Donation Bill, I want us to be first to market with a clear strategy.
(6) Compliance and standards: Ensure operations comply with relevant regulations and standards. (At least 3 years’ experience in this area).
(7) Stakeholder engagement: In conjunction with the Warehouse and Programmes Managers, liaise with partners, suppliers, and other stakeholders to build strong relationships and secure necessary resources.
(8) Performance Monitoring: Track key performance indicators (KPIs) and report on operational performance.
REQUIREMENTS:
(1) Leadership skills: Experience working in a charity or corporate organisation, and leading a team (must have).
(2) Strategic thinking and analytical skills: Capable of developing and implementing long-term operational strategies and be financially literate to inform decision-making and for operational efficiency (e.g., understanding the viability of each ‘programme’ or initiative, managing a budget and undertaking multi-year projections, and question the status quo).
(3) Problem solving ability: Identifying issues and finding practical solutions, while taking the team along on the mission’s journey.
(4) Organisational skills: Highly organised with the ability to multitask and familiarity with regulatory compliance matters, matched by the ability to “roll up” sleeves as required.
(5) Communication skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, matched by the ability to “roll up” sleeves as required.
(6) Charity sector knowledge: Understanding the unique challenges and requirements of operating within a charity framework in Singapore, and familiarity of IPC requirements.
